Site visits and/or interviews will take place between 23 April – 7 May. The relevant coordinator will be in touch with you to arrange the visit and or interview if you progress to that stage.

Awards in the regions/nations will be given to the Best Project, the Best Plan, Small Planning Consultancy of the Year, Mid-sized Planning Consultancy of the Year, Planning Authority of the Year and Young Planner of the Year*. These winners become national finalists.

Winning and high scoring entries are put through for judging in the national awards and will be judged against the others in their selected categories for the national finalist list. The remaining four categories are also judged to complete the national finalist list of 15 categories. National winners and commendations are announced at the national ceremony in November 2025.

*All Young Planner winners will be entered into the national shortlist and will be judged again by the national judges. The top five will become national finalists and will be interviewed by the national judges.

This award celebrates outstanding projects that boost economic prosperity. We're looking for exceptional work in areas such as:

  • Regeneration projects
  • Industrial and commercial development
  • Infrastructure improvements
  • Public realm enhancements 
  • Minerals planning

Eligibility

Projects must be completed within the last three years. You may submit the same project for multiple categories, but each submission needs a separate entry form focused on category-specific criteria. Winning projects cannot be resubmitted. Projects that were previously shortlisted or commended may be resubmitted.

This award celebrates outstanding Plan-making practice. An up-to-date, evidence-based and ambitious adopted Plan is the cornerstone of an effective Plan-led system. Development Plans can be supplemented by other spatial planning guidance. We're looking for exceptional work in areas such as: 

  • Local Development Plans
  • Strategic Development Plans
  • Supplementary planning documents/guidance
  • Spatial Strategies
  • Masterplans or Design Codes 
  • Neighbourhood Plans

Place Plans All submissions will need to show how the preparation and/or content of the plan or document goes above and beyond good practice: why does it warrant an award for excellence?

Eligibility

Plans must have been adopted between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2024. Plans that have previously won an RTPI Award for Planning Excellence cannot be resubmitted. Plans that were previously shortlisted or commended may be resubmitted.

Plans must have been formally adopted by the relevant Authority or body and that decision must not be subject to a live judicial review. If a legal challenge to adoption arises following submission, you are required to notify us by emailing awards@rtpi.org.uk

This award seeks out the brightest RTPI members in the early stages of their careers. Potential candidates can work in any area of the industry. We are looking for outstanding Young Planners who can demonstrate a contribution to planning or significant career achievements in recent years.

Entrants must be in the first ten years of post-qualification experience and be a current member of the RTPI. A candidate can nominate themselves or they can also be nominated by an employer, colleague or peer.

Entries into these categories will be judged by a national judging panel. Finalists will be announced in October. Winners of each category will be announced at the national awards ceremony in November 2025.

This award celebrates the outstanding use of digital technology. We're looking for exceptional work in areas such as:

  • Local Plans and policy writing
